About Amy E. Stein, PhD, LCSW, MSW
Meandering down many a path as an organic farmer, environmental education teacher, oil painter, author, therapist, social worker, and full-time lecturer in academia for a decade, led to the culmination of Soulful Healing Therapy. I wrote about some of these experiences in Fragments: Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder (published by Routledge, 2002, available at routledge.com and Amazon).
Skills in writing and research were laboriously (!) honed in my PhD program at Bryn Mawr College and led to several publications in peer-reviewed academic journals, as well as opportunities to present original qualitative research studies on immigrants and refugees, and ecological and social justice at national conferences, such as the American Public Health Association (APHA), Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR).
Over the course of 20+ years, I have been blessed and honored to travel along the journey of life with many individuals of all ages, as well as couples, groups, and families, of diverse populations. I met many of these individuals while working in various contexts, such as a federally-qualified community health center in Worcester, Massachusetts, a wilderness therapy program in northern Maine, alternative schools, hospitals, and psychiatric hospitals.
Such experiences challenged, humbled, and taught me more than anything I think I ever could have anticipated or prepared for. I am also eternally grateful for the mentors I met along the way who provided these opportunities, otherwise I likely would never have had the chance to experience them. These experiences have significantly shaped and influenced both my personal and professional life.
