Why Mindfulness Helps in Therapy
Reduces stress and anxiety by calming the nervous system
Improves focus and self-awareness, helping you notice patterns and triggers
Builds emotional regulation, making it easier to respond rather than react
Supports healing from trauma, by gently reconnecting you with your body and present moment
Mindfulness in Practice
You don’t need to meditate for hours. Mindfulness can be as simple as:
Taking 3 deep breaths when you feel overwhelmed
Noticing how your feet feel on the earth
Eating slowly and savoring each bite
Listening to someone without planning your response
🧘 Try This Now
Mini Mindfulness in Nature Exercise:
Go outside or gaze out a window. Notice the sky, but not just the sky. Notice the different colors of the sky and the clouds. Observe any trees. Notice the colors of the bark and the leaves. Notice the intricate entangling of the branches. Look at any birds. What colors are they? Practice beginner's mind. Gaze upon the scene before you as if you have never seen it before. Imagine yourself as a young child gazing in awe upon nature. Let any thoughts go. Take a few slow breaths, deeply inhaling and exhaling for a few minutes. Observe how you now feel.
